What the Fleet Planning Practice does:
Fleet planning is
a core competency within any vehicle rental car company. A good fleet
plan is not comprised of simply buying low and selling high (although,
that ain't a bad way to start). It should not exist in a vacuum but
rather be aligned very closely with the goals of the auto rental fleet.
Some key ingredients of a good fleet plan are:
- The ability to
get the rental department the equipment they need when they need it
at the cheapest cost.
- Providing reasonable
contingency strategies if business swings dramatically above or below
the projected rental forecast (flexibility).
- Accurately projecting
holding costs by car class and the overall fleet. This will help rental
make informed decisions on rates and other competitive issues
- The mechanisms
to examine and react to unforeseen opportunities in the market and
capitalize on them.
- A diverse plan
for remarketing out of service units.
VRCG will work with
you or your fleet manager to identify strengths and weaknesses in your
current fleet plan.
Simple Fleet
Planners Test:
- What is your
fleet cost as a percentage of your revenues? What is the industry
standard for profitable companies.
- What is your
actual monthly depreciation per car?
- What percentage
of your fleet is flexible today?
