Rental Car Prices

Bottom Line Personal: May 15. 2007

Rental-car prices change as often as 20 times a day, with swings as great as 28%, says auto-rental consultant Michael J. Kane. Thanks to the Internet, rental firms repeatedly compare prices charged by competitors and adjust their own prices quickly. Strategy: Compare prices on Web sites such as Orbitz and Expedia, then see if the rental firm’s own site charges less… lock in low rates by making a reservation, then keep checking and rebook if the prices goes even lower.

Michael J. Kane is president of the auto-rental consulting company Vehicle Replacement Consultant Group, Inc., Southfield, Michigan. He has more than 20 years of experience in the auto-rental and leasing business. www.vrcg.com
